Citroën Auto Locksmith — Wrexham & North Wales

From the C1 to the Berlingo van, Citroën's BSI-based security is something we deal with on a weekly basis across North Wales.

Citroën has a strong following around Wrexham, Mold and out towards Ellesmere Port, with the C1 and C3 popular as first cars and the C4 and C4 Cactus common family choices. The Berlingo van is a regular sight on tradesmen's drives too, and because it shares its underlying electronics with the passenger cars, a Berlingo lockout is handled the same way as a car one.

The heart of a Citroën's security is the BSI — a body computer that ties together central locking, alarm and immobiliser rather than leaving them as separate boxes. That single-unit approach is efficient for the manufacturer but means all-keys-lost recovery has to go through the BSI properly, which is exactly the kind of work we specialise in rather than a generic key-cutting stall.

How Citroën security has evolved

BSI (Body System Interface)

BSI (Body System Interface) A single control module that manages central locking, alarm and immobiliser functions together, so a lost key or lockout on a Citroën is really a BSI job rather than a simple lock or battery fix. Genuine or correctly cloned replacement BSI units are the accepted trade route when every key has gone missing.

Earlier models

Simpler remote central locking paired with a separate immobiliser, generally straightforward for spare key cutting and programming.

Mid-generation models

BSI-managed locking and immobiliser become standard, bringing central locking, alarm and immobiliser into one coordinated system.

Recent models

Keyless comfort entry appears on higher trims alongside the established BSI logic, requiring careful fob pairing on top of the usual BSI work.

What we can do for Citroën owners

  • Cut and program spare remote keys

  • Recover all-keys-lost situations via the BSI

  • Supply and fit replacement or virgin BSI units where needed

  • Repair or replace worn remote fobs and blades

  • Pair keyless entry fobs on supported models

  • Non-destructive lockout entry for cars and Berlingo vans

“My Berlingo's only key snapped in the door lock on a job near Nantwich — they had me back on the road within the hour.”

A Recent Callout

A self-employed tradesman locked out mid-job, dealing with a snapped key rather than a lost one.

Citroën key FAQs

The Berlingo and the Peugeot Partner look identical — are they the same underneath?

Effectively, yes. The Berlingo and the Partner are one vehicle built alongside each other and sold under two badges, so the locking, the keys and the BSI behind them are the same hardware. For our purposes the name on the tailgate is close to the only thing that differs.

Why does my C3's alarm sound when I open the door with the blade?

Because a C3's BSI runs central locking, alarm and immobiliser as one system rather than three. A door opened mechanically, without the remote having authorised it, is read as exactly what an alarm exists to catch — which usually points at the remote side rather than at a faulty alarm.

My C4 developed several faults at once after the battery was disconnected. Is that the BSI?

It often is, and it is less alarming than it looks. With a single Citroen BSI handling locking, alarm and immobiliser on a C4, an interruption to its power can leave it needing to re-establish itself, so what presents as a list of separate faults turns out to be a single unit that has not settled. Worth diagnosing before a key is replaced.
