Van Deadlocks & Van Security Fitted in Wrexham & North Wales

Your van is not really a vehicle — it is where the tools live, and for most tradespeople it is the single most expensive thing parked outside the house overnight. The security it left the factory with was built to a price across a whole model range, and the people who target work vans know the weak points on each one. We are certified in van security fitting, trained by HD Van Locks, and we supply and fit van security across North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire. There is no single package that suits every van: a courier making forty drops a day has a different problem from a joiner whose van sits in the same yard every night. We look at the vehicle, ask how you actually use it and where it is left, and fit the locks that answer that.

Van security we supply and fit

Van deadlocks

A separate, key-operated locking point that works independently of the factory central locking. Even if the standard system is bypassed or the van is unlocked electronically, the deadlock is still holding the door. Best where a van is left loaded overnight, on a drive, in a yard or on site.

Slam locks

Locks the door the instant it is shut — no key, no button, nothing to remember. It exists for the multi-drop day, where you are in and out of the van dozens of times and one distracted moment is all it takes to walk away from an unlocked load.

Anti-pick & anti-drill protection

Reinforcement aimed at attacks on the lock itself rather than the door. Some models have a well-known weak point that is worth protecting before anything else is added.

Security handles & vulnerable points

Shielding and replacement handles for the specific locking points that are known to be attacked on your make and model.

Hook locks

A hook lock drives a hooked steel bolt into the door frame, so the door is held to the body of the van rather than just latched. It is a strong choice for side load doors and for vans carrying high-value tools, because it resists the door being pulled or levered away.

Anti-peel kits & shields

Peeling is where the corner of a door is bent back to reach inside, going round the lock rather than through it. Anti-peel kits and steel shields reinforce the door edge and the locking area so that attack stops working.

Security & repair plates

Steel plates that cover and strengthen the lock area. Repair plates are also the right fix after a break-in, so a door that has been drilled or damaged is not left weaker than it was.

Why factory van security is often not enough

Vans are targeted for what is inside them, not for the vehicle itself. Factory locking is designed to a budget across an entire model range, and the common methods of getting past it are well known to the people using them. An additional, independent locking point changes the problem: it has to be defeated separately, in the open, and it costs time that an opportunist does not want to spend.

That is the honest case for van security. Nothing makes a van impossible to break into — what it does is make yours slower and louder to attack than the one parked next to it.

What it is really protecting

For most tradespeople the van itself is insured and replaceable. The tools are the problem. Replacing a full kit is expensive, the wait for parts is worse, and the days of work lost while it is sorted out rarely come back. A break-in that takes ten minutes can cost a fortnight.

Deadlocks and slam locks are worth considering if you are a tradesperson carrying tools between jobs, a builder, electrician, plumber or joiner, a delivery or courier driver, a mobile business working out of the vehicle, or a fleet operator securing several vans to the same standard.

Vans we already work on

Security fitting sits alongside the key, lock and vehicle-entry work we already do on vans. The two jobs below are from that side of the business, not security fittings, and the customers’ number plates are blurred.

Mobile fitting across North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire

We fit on a mobile basis where practical, so the van does not have to sit at a workshop losing you a day’s work. Whether it is at home, at your premises or on site, it is worth a call to talk through what the vehicle needs and whether we can come to you.

We cover Wrexham, Chester, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Mold, Ellesmere Port, Telford, Nantwich, Market Drayton and Gobowen, and the surrounding areas.

“Prompt reply to online enquiry. Polite professional and efficient. Nathan came to the house which made things so much easier, sorted out a spare key for our daughter’s first car. Very reasonably priced and I would definitely recommend.”

“Called ND because keys got locked in the car 2 hours before a mobile mechanic was due to turn up. He was here within half an hour and it was done in minutes. Lot cheaper than I expected.”

Van Deadlocks & Van Security Fitted in Wrexham & North Wales FAQs

What is the difference between a deadlock and a slam lock?

A deadlock is a separate, key-operated locking point that works independently of the van's factory central locking — you lock it deliberately, and it is the right choice for a van left loaded overnight. A slam lock locks automatically the moment the door is shut, which suits multi-drop delivery work where the van is opened and closed constantly and one forgotten lock is all it takes.

Are you qualified to fit van security?

Yes — we are certified in van security fitting, trained by HD Van Locks. It sits alongside the auto locksmith work we already do on keys, locks and vehicle entry across North Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire.

Can you fit van security at my home or on site?

We work on a mobile basis where practical, so in most cases yes — at home, at your business premises or on site. It is worth a quick call first so we can check the vehicle and what you need before travelling.

Which doors should be protected?

Usually the rear and side load doors, because that is where the tools are and where attacks are concentrated. What is best for your van depends on the model and how it is used, which is why we look at the vehicle rather than fitting the same package to everything.

Will extra locks affect my insurance?

Policies vary, so check with your own insurer — but security upgrades are generally viewed favourably, and some policies ask for additional locking on commercial vehicles carrying tools. Ask us what has been fitted and we can tell you what to quote them.

Do you work on any make of van?

We work on a wide range of makes and models. Tell us the van and the year when you call and we can confirm what is available for it before anything is arranged.

What is a hook lock and do I need one?

A hook lock uses a hooked steel bolt that locks into the door frame, holding the door to the body of the van. It is most useful on side load doors and where a van carries expensive tools overnight. We will tell you honestly whether your van and how you use it justify one.

What is van door peeling, and how do anti-peel kits stop it?

Peeling is when a thief bends back the corner of a door to reach inside, which gets round even a good lock. Anti-peel kits and steel shields reinforce the door edge so it cannot be bent back far enough to reach the load.

How much does it cost to fit van deadlocks?

Our fitted prices are: deadlock or hook deadlock £180 each, slam lock £180 each, internal shield £140 each, external latch shield £140, anti-peel £140, OBD lock £230 and wiring loom guards £100 for the pair. Tell us your van and the year when you call and we will confirm what it needs before anything is arranged. No VAT to add: ND Auto Locksmiths is not VAT registered.
