Tesla Auto Locksmith — Wrexham & North Wales

No blade, no barrel — Tesla access is all about cards, fobs and your phone, and that's exactly where we can help.

Tesla numbers are growing steadily around Wrexham and Chester, with the Model 3 the most common sight on the school run and commute, and a growing number of Model Y owners too as the range has expanded locally. Owners tend to be comfortable with the technology day-to-day, but that confidence usually disappears fast the moment a key card goes missing or a phone won't connect.

Unlike almost every other brand we work on, Tesla doesn't use a traditional cut metal blade on most models — access and starting are handled through key cards, key fobs, or phone-as-key over Bluetooth. That means our work on Tesla centres on pairing and adding cards or fobs to the vehicle's system rather than cutting anything, which is a genuinely different skill set from conventional locksmith work and not every mobile locksmith carries the right kit for it.

Tesla Access & Security Systems

Key card access

All current Tesla models - A card tapped against the vehicle to unlock and enable driving, generally the most reliable backup method.

Key fob (optional accessory)

All current Tesla models - A traditional-feeling proximity fob available as an add-on, useful for household members who prefer a physical key.

Phone-as-key (Bluetooth)

All current Tesla models - Smartphone app-based access and start, the default method for most owners but reliant on phone battery and Bluetooth connection.

Common Tesla Locksmith Jobs

  • Lost or demagnetised key card needing replacement and pairing

  • Phone-as-key failing to connect after an app or software update

  • Adding a spare card or fob for a second driver or family member

  • Fob battery running low and causing inconsistent access

  • Locked out with a dead phone and no card as backup

If your Tesla card or fob has stopped working, our mobile service covers pairing new cards and fobs on-site, so you're not stuck waiting for a service centre appointment.

Tesla key FAQs

With no keyhole, what does Tesla key work actually involve?

Access on most Teslas runs through a key card, an optional fob or the phone over Bluetooth rather than a blade and barrel, so the work is pairing a card or fob to the vehicle rather than cutting anything. It is a genuinely different discipline to conventional key cutting, and not every mobile locksmith is set up for it.

My phone key stopped working after a software update. Is that a locksmith job or a Tesla one?

It is usually the Bluetooth pairing between the phone and the car rather than the vehicle's access system, and re-establishing it — or falling back to a paired card — normally resolves it. Where it turns out to be a vehicle software matter instead, we will say so rather than keep going.

My key card only works if I hold it in exactly the right spot. Is it failing?

Not necessarily, and it is worth knowing why. A Tesla key card is a passive contactless card with no battery and no magnetic strip, so it cannot go flat or be demagnetised. The reader has one defined position, so presenting the card precisely is how it is meant to work. If it has genuinely stopped reading at the correct spot, it is the card's internal aerial or the reader itself that wants checking on the vehicle.
